In local sustainability news, PNM opened a 2-megawatt photovoltaic plant last week, the first step towards adding 22 megawatts of solar-generated power by the end of the year. It’s the second major solar installation to be opened this month, following the opening of Chevron’s 20 acre plant in northern New Mexico. While their combined generating power of 3 megawatts is only enough to power about 1,000 homes, it’s good to see companies taking a first step towards making use of our abundant sunshine to meet our energy needs.
