December is coming this weekend!

The theme we decided on is "Deck the Lab" with a similar format to our
Haunted Lab event, with workshops leading up to the final display.
Luckily, this (should) be an automated display, so we won't need to
actually be open for the final result. The tentative schedule was to
discuss light and music sequencing, and automation.

While reading the Makezine blog, I ran across the software platform
"Vixen" (a .NET 2.0 program) which will uses an industry standard
called DMX, and how to en/decode this signalling using an Arduino.

I also figure that we have a handful of X10 devices which can also be
integrated into the system.

So now we just need to determine what we want our display to look like?

Per Adric:

I know Ray has some of the sequencing stuff kinda mocked up in his own way, I think he may bring in a prototype in for tonight's hacknight.

Bandit posted some resources too.

(edited, to correct the title, to "Deck The Lab"

Ray demoed his lighting sequencing software On Tuesday night.

We will need to build the power/relay boards. this Instructable has a pretty good drawing of the schematic http://www.instructables.com/id/3-Channel-arduino-Powered-Christmas-Light-Controll/step3/Make-the-Relay-Board/

Little update,
We wired up a breadboard with the transistors needed for the parallel port interface to trigger the lights. Ray also got the relays, soldered on jumper wires, and we got the parallel port cable pinnout traced and pin headers soldered to the cable.

If anyone has single color 100 or so light strings they can bring in great! if not i can go get some at True-value, I have a $5 coupon there which will get us just about 2 free strings. if i can find $25 worth of things i want there (oh the horror)

meanwhile on the internet..
