Gotta watch the video. This may go well with the speakers in the mason jar driver electronics.. But .. this would be a cool workshop project, need to see what the parts cost is:

pipe: $50
Speakers: $20
Flanges/elbows: $5
Misc: $15
total parts: $90

Need to charge at least $120 to make it worthwhile.

Alternative is some freq filter and use normal pipe, mount LEDS in vertical row on pipe, lights up different ones as fcn of freq.

This is a great project for a slow afternoon, or a beginners introduction to DIY. [William] shows off a really simple speaker project that results in a light show as well as a decent enclosure (http://makeprojects.com/Project/Sound-O-Light-Speakers/2464/1#.UCPP-UJaXrt) . He's using a PVC elbow to mount the speakers. They're just glued in place. Below that, a section of clear tube allows for the lighting effects and a flange at the bottom supplies stability. For the lights, [William] opted to forego any complicated electronics and simply wired LEDs to the speakers themselves.

Admittedly we've seen more complicated systems in the past, but his results are quite nice and could be done pretty fast.
