2020 Board of Directors Election Announcement

TL;DR: mandatory Board of Directors election 2-16, nominations open now, early electronic voting, catered election party on the 16th, come have fun with us!  Send nominations & questions to ELECTIONS@quelab.net

——————————————————————-

Greetings Quelab Members!

The Quelab Board Of Directors Election will be held on Sunday February16, 2019. Of the seven person Board of Directors, there are four directors finishing out their two year terms, so you will be voting to elect four Directors.  The election party will be held at Quelab, starting at 5:00 p.m. and running until 8:00 p.m. or later, if we don’t reach the required voter turnout (per the By-laws, a quorum of voters is required, that is, 53% turnout). Like previous years, we will be providing food, and hope to have many Quelab members come out to socialize, be a part of the process & enjoy the party at the same time.

ELECTION PROCESS AND VOTING – Per the By-Laws, the Election will be handled by Vice President John Murray with assists from other volunteers.  We plan to again utilize OpaVote for electronic voting (https://www.opavote.com/). There will be no paper ballots.  Voting will start earlier that week, perhaps Wednesday (exact date still to be set).

MANDATORY – Per Quelab’s By-Laws, the Election “meeting” is mandatory for ALL Quelab members, and all members should vote for their choice(s) for Directors on the Board (even if that vote is “none of the above”).  Fortunately, voting electronically counts as “attendance”.  Early electronic voting simplifies things for everyone, and we encourage as many people to vote early as possible.  The election team still wants to see as many Quelab members as possible at the party. Come to Quelab  & have some fun with us!

NOMINATIONS – Nominations are now open. Any member can submit a nomination for the election. The nominee must be at least 18 years old, a resident of New Mexico, but does not have to be a Quelab member (but must be ~eligible~ to be a member of Quelab). Members can nominate themselves (self-nominate). Once a nominee confirms their interest in running, they will have a chance to introduce themselves and communicate their interest to the members. We hope to post a short bio to the wiki for each nominee. Send nominations to elections@quelab.net. Nominations close on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. and barring complications, we will send out the official list of nominees the next day, Sunday the 9th.

VOTE RANKING – When voting, everyone will be asked to rank all of the candidates that they want to vote for; they can rank as many (or as few) candidates as they want. Unless they are voting for no or only one candidate, the votes must be ranked. The votes will be counted using a single transferable vote system.

2016 Election Night

Quelab’s annual board election will be held on Wednesday 17 Feburary 2016, starting at 7PM at Tractor Brewing Wells Park. We will have the whole taproom to ourselves to have a celebratory end to 2015, and a welcoming of the new 2016. Bring a project to show off, and come join the community of Quelab in a party setting.

The nominations will end this coming Wednesday, and the official slate of candidates will be announced at that time on the members list. All members paid in full (or on automatic payment) will be sent a voting guide, and all the candidates will be invited to post a quick blog entry as an introduction: keep your eyes peeled.

We will have the folks from Spork The World on hand to provide food, but the taproom is welcome to any food brought in. And even though this is being held at an drinking establishment, minors are welcome with their guardians.

Electronic voting will start on Monday at 8PM, and will run until Wednesday at 8PM, so on-site and electronic voting will both be closed at that time, and we will go and tabulate the results and announce the winners of the election this evening.

So join us at Tractor Brewing Wells Park on Wednesday 17 February, from 7-10PM!

2016 Board Election Process

Greetings Quelab Members!

The Quelab Board Of Directors Election is coming up. There will be a period of 3 days for people to vote, ending Wednesday February 17, 2016 at 8pm during our election celebration event. During the election period, all voting members will have a chance to submit their vote electronically. At the election event, before 8pm, anyone who hasn’t voted yet can submit a paper ballot.

Nominations – Beginning now, any member can submit a nomination for the election. The nominee must be at least 18 years old but does not have to be a Quelab member. Members can nominate themselves. Once a nominee confirms that they are interested they will have a chance to introduce themselves and communicate their interest to the members. Nominees will be encouraged to create a 3-minute or less YouTube video to introduce themselves as a candidate. Send nominations to secretary@quelab.net. Nominations will close on February 12, 2016.

Counting – When voting, everyone will be asked to rank all of the candidates that they want to vote for, they can rank as many candidates as they want. Unless they are only voting for one candidate, the votes must be ranked. The votes will be counted using a single transferable vote system. This video has a good explanation of that system:

There is a minimum quorum requirement (52%), and we want to have everyone’s input, so please vote!

If there are any questions please address them to officers@quelab.net

Sincerely
Chris Hughes
Secretary

January 2015 Meetings

Greetings Spacers, and a preemptive Happy New Year! Quelab has had a wonderful 2014, and the time has come to finish our annual planning process to set the direction of Quelab for the coming year. Come join us on Sunday 4 January 2015 at 5:05PM to sort through all the ideas which were put on cards the at the last meeting. Potluck to precede the meeting at 4:00PM. (agenda link here)

There will also be a separate meeting for the Election for the Board of Directors on Saturday 24 January 2015 at 7:00PM. This is a quick members-only meeting, but it is important, because a quorum of 60% of members is required for the vote to count. Members who are in good standing1 as of 17 January will be emailed a proxy ballot; you can either cast your ballot in person at the election, or return the ballot physically before the meeting.
