Board Game Night – 9/8 6:30pm

Awesome train building game!

Our next Board Game Night is coming up on Thursday, September 8th at 6:30 pm.  Play one of our board games or bring your own.  I’ll be bringing the one pictured above–I’ve never run it for more than three people, so I’m really looking forward to it! These events have been a lot of fun in the past, hope you can join us!  As always, admission to Board Game Night is FREE!

Quelab @ Bubonicon 43!

That’s right, we’re going to be at SciFi and Fantasy convention Bubonicon!  Better yet, we’ll be feeding hungry fans for free!  Find us in the Cons Suite on Saturday, August 27th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and you’ll get some of Gabe’s Award-Winning Frito pie.  Come by and say hi!

The theme for the Bubonicon this year is Steampunk.  Still working on your costume?  Join us for Steampunk It Up this Saturday!

Local Event: WordCamp ABQ

One thing I love about living in Albuquerque is being part of an active and engaged tech community.  I try to keep an ear to the ground for upcoming interesting and exciting events.  This one sounds particularly good:

WordCamp is a conference that focuses on everything WordPress. WordCamps are informal, community-organized events that are put together by WordPress users like you. Everyone from casual users to core developers participate, share ideas, and get to know each other. WordCamps are open to WordPress.com and WordPress.org users alike.

We use WordPress for our blog and we’re big fans!  It is going to be held at the Albuquerque
Sheraton Airport Friday – Sunday, September 16 – 18, 2011.  You can visit the Albuquerque Wordcamp website for more info.  I’m sure it will be great!

Steampunk Goggles!

This month we’re celebrating everything Steampunk at Quelab!  Steampunkers, if you’re unfamiliar, try to imagine what the modern life would look like if technology had stopped in the Victorian era (think Wild Wild West).  Here’s a recent Alibi article on Steampunk. Join local Steampunk fans as we share our Steampunk creations. Bring your Steampunk costuming, jewelry, and/or toy-weapon supplies to work on, or trade for what you need.  We will provide an array of adhesives/tapes, spray paints, clays, friendly plastic strips, metal/cloth scraps, beads, cogs, batteries and LED’s to give your project some spark!  5-10pm Saturday, August 20th.  $10 for non-members, kids under 12 are free.

Event: Crowdfund This! 1

Quelab is partnering up with the New Mexico Tech Council NMTC to do a little workshop/presentation on Crowdfunding. Proceeds go towards funding Quelab for future community events/talks/classes

Crowdfund This!
A Community Fundraiser for Quelab

Crowdfunding or micro funding, has become a popular – and useful – way of raising funds for projects of all sorts, from movies to games, hardware, organizations and more. But while thousands have joined sites like Kickstarter and IndieGoGo to help take their project to the next level, the majority of projects are still not funded.

This workshop will help run the numbers and share what it takes to develop your solid project idea into a good candidate for funding from the wider community. Bringing together experienced pros from several community organizations, you’ll learn:

· Advantages and Disadvantages of different crowdfunding platforms
· Structuring the incentives your provide to your funders
· Budgeting to account for incentives, processing and other fees
· Honing your message
· Promoting your project
· …and more
