Weekly update on the status of Quelab 3.0 at 1511 Central NE.
CURRENT STATUS
INSURANCE: We still have several agencies working on obtaining. A possible semi solution may be available shortly. Doug has a potential solution for the LLC side of the issue. More to come.
ELECTRICAL: Progress continues in the overall building. Some setbacks because of the storm and flooding. The electricians are working on our job around other clients of theirs and priority work keep them away after Tuesday. Some of them will be back full-time next week.
HVAC: Continues to be a code and interpretation issue. Doug thinks he has reached a partial solution to the impasse and plans on pushing the issue next week.
SECURITY: Adam Ivey is continuing to replace and rebuild the low voltage system. He has almost finished the Fire Monitoring/alarm system downstairs and will be working on the upstairs next week.
CONSTRUCTION: All the major construction has been completed now with the exception of the elevator room and welding area. The elevator room was still wet, and we are monitoring to make sure the leaks have been fixed. The welding room will not be complete until we install the roll up door (in about a month). The wash out table has been installed in the screen-printing room and is awaiting the steward’s input on finishing.
OVERCROWDING: Things are being moved all around the building and all rooms are becoming less cluttered. The anti-cluttering group will be working, and we will be using workers to move the big (and little) things as we encounter them. We will be clearing rooms of all extraneous items as we work to clean up the building.
FINANCES: This continues to a closely watched constraint on our activities. As stated previously, some want to do things may be delayed extensively.
PROJECTIONS
We still cannot make a projection as to full opening of Quelab because of the insurance and HVAC issues. We are working these issues as aggressively as possible.
The ventilation issue for the laser cutter has not been solved yet. Doug will be cutting a vent hole this week and Craig will be back and hopefully be able to connect the venting. We are still waiting for a dedicated switched outlet for the blower and cooler.
This week the emphasis will be on starting an intensive cleanup of all areas. Workers will start in the Fabric Arts area and scrub floors, wipe off tables and clean each room as much as possible. Work will proceed to laser, design arts, front hall, core, multi-purpose room, game room, bathrooms and break room. The workers will be concentrating on patching holes left by the electricians and finish painting other patches. Additional clean up including recycling runs will be done on the parking lots. We also intend to start manufacturing and installing steel security bars on doors and windows.
For security, insurance and access issues the board will be enforcing our by-laws requirement to have a current photo (not avatar), address, phone number and emergency contact on file. Everyone will also be required to annually SIGN a copy of our waiver. We will start documenting these within the next couple of weeks.
Depending on #1 above we hope to start orientations for stewards and existing members prior to Thanksgiving Day and for new members around the first of December.
If anyone has questions, I am available at any time via phone or email.
