Weekly update on the status of Quelab 3.0 at 1511 Central NE.
CURRENT STATUS
INSURANCE: HURRAY, we finally got a quote on liability for both the LLC and Quelab last week. I thought we were going to be able to bind it but hopefully we can do so Monday or Tuesday. Still to come will be quotes on building coverage for the LLC and contents for Quelab. With luck we will have all 4 policies in place by the end of the week.
ELECTRICAL: Progress continues in the overall building. The early part of the week was spent redoing all the wiring for the HVAC’s on the roof. All the panels had to be replaced. They also completed the corridor lighting for the entire upstairs and installed lighting in the garage/donations area.
HVAC: All the HVAC equipment is still on order. It should be in early next week. Doug expects them to install a few days after all the equipment arrive so they only have to hire a crane once. Once all units are on the roof they will start installing all the duct work. Expect heating and cooling for a portion of the building (east wing) withing a week or so.
SECURITY: Adam Ivey is still working on the overall alarm and security system. He has been trying to connect the WildApricot system to our system. Progress is being made.
CONSTRUCTION: With the beautiful weather this week we strove to paint the north side of the building. This was accomplished and the consensus seems to be that it is a good color match for us. Most of the holes have been filled and painted but the electricians keep cutting new ones.
OVERCROWDING: There was a shuffle of room usage with the games and arcade moving into the library and electronics, stained glass and others moving into the arcade room. The screen printing room is starting to come together so all the parts that were in the hall are now in the room. We also moved lockers into several of the rooms at the stewards request but there are several more available that haven’t been claimed yet.
FINANCES: This continues to a closely watched constraint on our activities. Some more members have stepped up with loans to Quelab that give us a lot more flexibility and relief.
PROJECTIONS
Now that we should have liability insurance in place by the end of the week, we will be working to set up reorientations. Adric has been working with the registrars to develop the orientation so I would expect to see some announcements coming soon.
Last minute objections and demands by the steward have pushed back the opening of the laser room. We are in the process of reengineering the overall flow requirements and how best to obtain it. I do not expect a quick resolution.
This week we will continue the intensive clean-up of all areas. Workers have cleaned and mopped the entire upstairs area, except wood and machine shops. Next week they will be starting on redoing all the halls and open areas downstairs. We should be able to start installing bars on windows this week. The window into the design arts room on the north side will be uncovered now that the area has been painted.
For security, insurance and access issues the board will be enforcing our by-laws requirement to have a current photo (not avatar), address, phone number and emergency contact on file. Everyone will also be required to annually SIGN a copy of our waiver. We will start documenting these.
Depending on #1 above we hope to start orientations for stewards and existing members this week.
If anyone has questions, I am available at any time via phone or email.
